Lovina is centrally located to many attractions
and scenic drives. These include the beautiful local hot
springs just eight kilometres away,
set in a stunning tropical garden. In the same village of Banjar
you can visit the only Buddhist monastry in
Bali. Further on into the local maintain range there is Munduk
waterfall. To get there you pass through some of the
most stunning rice terraces Bali has to offer. Munduk waterfall
is a fifteen- minute walk off the main road through coffee
and clove plantations. Further on up through the local mountain
range you come to two extinct vulcanic lakes called Tambligan
and Bratan. Close to lake Bratan you can find one of the liveliest
markets in Bali selling an incredible range of fruit and vegetables,
as well as cloves and handicrafts.Also not to miss is the Botanical
gardens set behind the market, with its unique giant
ferns. In the same area beside lake Bratan is
the beautiful garden setting of the local Hindu temple
Ulun Danu where there
are playgrounds,
or for the active you can take a boat ride in the lake, go
skiing or parasailing.
Singaraja just set 10km east
of Lovina was the old capital of Bali during the Dutch colonial
days.It is definitely
worth a visit to give you a good idea of a typical Indonesian town,
with its lively market place and Chinese temple are two places
you shouldn't miss. Further east of Singaraja is Air Sanih, which
has cold springs, gushing gallons of fresh water into the ocean.
Further east of here is the waterfall of Les with a stunning
walk through mixed farm land of rambutan, coffee and cloves.
Water sports are another great
reason to extend your stay in the North, with the best snorkelling
and diving spots to be found in Bali and for that matter in Indonesia.
A one and a half hours drive away is the National Park, where Menjangan
Island is situated providing some of the best coral reefs
to be found in Indonesia. Heading east of Lovina there is the American
shipwreck of the US Liberty, where it is possible to enter and
see right through the ship. There is also good snorkelling and
diving to be had from the beach of Lovina, including water skiing,
wake boarding, parasailing and banana boat riding.
